In your final year of High School English, the focus will be basically on British Literature from the Medieval times to the present. You will (hopefully) see how the trends, styles and themes of the literature of the past affect the present in our country.
You will be expected to write at very near the college level. Writing will be major part of your grade. Expect composition and essay questions in every unit we cover. An important factor in writing well is word choice. Therefore vocabulary will be stressed also.
Preparation for the North Carolina Final Exams will incorporate study of literature, documents and poetry.
The main initial emphasis of the course will be in working on the Multi-genre research Senior Project. Students should have completed most of the research paper in the junior year.
Because of the importance of research skills to your future education, there will be an emphasis on learning how to do research in a proper fashion. Internet research skills and activities will be given throughout the year until we reach the research assignment.
Finally, we will be adding 21st century twist to the tired old speech; you will asked to make a presentation using presentation software such as PowerPoint.
Presentations will come from this research. This will prepare students for the Presentation you will need to make as the final step of your Senior Project.
